Why are Degree Plans free?
We’re passionate about helping students earn their degrees debt free*. We’ve worked with thousands of students who have graduated debt free and want to share that knowledge with you.
If you like your Degree Plan and are ready to get started, we offer a variety of services—access to online courses, coaching/accountability, credit earning, and transfer assistance, etc. If any of these spark your interest, great! Your Admissions Advisor can tell you all about them. If not, no problem. The Degree Plan is yours to keep.
*Unbound's goal is to give you the ability to pay for college without loans. Unbound does not help you with any existing debt and is not responsible if you decide to take out loans in the future.
What types of courses will be on my Degree Plan?
To save you the most money, we recommend most (or all) of your credits be earned through online courses. However, if you’d like to attend and graduate from a brick and mortar school, we can build your plan accordingly.
Will this work for my school?
We can create a Degree Plan for virtually any school in the United States that is regionally accredited (the gold standard of accreditation) and accepts transfer credit—about 94% of U.S. colleges.
I've already earned credit. Can I use the credit I already have?
Of course! Our Academic Advisors will review your transcripts and provide recommendations for you based on the credit you already have.
What can I major in?
We can create a Degree Plan for almost every major. Some majors (business, communications) are easier than others (engineering, nursing), but we can almost always save you some money on your degree. Request a personalized Degree Plan to find out what your degree and costs would look like.
Will my college accept these courses?
Every course you take through Unbound is offered by a regionally accredited college or university. This allows you to transfer these courses to your chosen college. To verify any courses you might take will transfer to your college, you’ll receive professional degree planning.
What if I don’t like a course that I start?
As long as you withdraw from the course within 5 days of starting, you'll receive a 100% refund. Plus, we'll do our best to find an alternative course that fits your degree requirements. See our degree planning process for more information about degree requirements.
I’ve already completed some college, can these courses still help me?
Absolutely. Our advisors will show you courses that’ll transfer into a school of your choice and make sure you maximize your existing credits.
Savings and Money
How is this so inexpensive?
Colleges charge you general tuition that covers more than just your classes. It also includes campus upkeep, extracurricular programs, tenured professors, and more. With courses you take through Unbound, you only pay for the courses you take, allowing you to avoid bloated tuition fees.
Can I use financial aid or scholarships?
Most student “aid” is actually debt. So, we don’t accept any funds from financial aid. Instead, we work hard to lower your total cost, removing any need for student aid in the first place.
Our course plans start as low as $2,500 per semester, including books and fees. These plans allow you to pay as you go, rather than dropping large amounts of money at the beginning of a semester. This makes the total cost of your degree even easier to afford and—most importantly—keeps you out of debt.
I want the on-campus college experience. Will you still save me money?
Absolutely! The whole point of Unbound is putting you in charge of your degree. So whether you earn 30 credits with our program, or 90, we’re here to help you succeed. We’ll help you save as much money as possible no matter what option you pick. Just get in touch with an Admissions Advisor to go over your options.
Can I use Unbound if I'm currently enrolled at a college?
Yes! We've helped many students save money at their college by substituting their more expensive courses for flexible, inexpensive options. This option varies depending on your school’s policies. Talk to one of our Admissions Advisors to find out how much transfer credit your school will accept.
What if I don’t know which college to choose?
Then you’re in luck! Our Academic Advisors will provide you with personalized recommendations, so you can make an educated decision. Unlike most college advisors, we don’t accept any money from colleges, so you can count on us for an unbiased recommendation.
Shouldn’t I just go to community college?
You could. But if you do, you won’t be certain your credits will transfer. You’ll be severely limited by course options and availability. And you might end up having to take required courses at inconvenient times.
At Unbound, we guarantee your credits will transfer before you ever start your first course. You can begin courses at anytime, take them anywhere you want (as long as you have an internet connection), and finish at your own pace.
The choice is yours.
Will this affect my acceptance rates at college?
Yes, it will. By having a year or two of college completed before you apply, your chance of being accepted can dramatically increase.
What are the age limitations?
We ask that you be at least 15 years old. Interested in pursuing Unbound as a dual credit option? We can help with that! Many of our students combine Unbound with their high school requirements to knock out two birds with one stone.
Can I get a graduate degree? What about an associate degree?
Unbound is a bachelor’s degree program, but we can also help you with an associate degree if that’s what you need. At this time we do not offer support for graduate degrees. However, if your end goal is a graduate degree, our Admissions Advisors will take that into consideration when creating your Degree Plan. That way you’ll still be saving money while completing the requirements for acceptance to the graduate program of your choice while earning your bachelor’s degree.
How do I graduate sooner?
Our Global Digital Classroom offers access to a variety of self-paced courses you can take. These courses are more flexible than your average college course, which means the faster you complete them, the sooner you can graduate.
Do I have to live in a specific area/near a city?
Not at all. We have plenty of online options to help you earn credit. As long as you have a computer and an internet connection, you’re good to go. If you choose to graduate from a college that requires an on-campus experience, you’ll eventually have to attend classes at that location.
